Community Clinician

 

Summary: 

Eastside Community Mental Health Services offers immediate, barrier-free, and equitable mental health services in collaboration with families, couples, and individuals in the community. ECMHS Therapists and Crisis Counsellors provide crisis support, mental health system navigation, and single-session therapy to families, youth, couples, and individuals. Families, couples, and individual clients are offered expert consultation with the unique ethnocultural ECMHS interdisciplinary clinical team, comprised of crisis counsellors, therapists, consultants, and psychiatrists. 

As a Community Volunteer Therapist, you will provide quality clinical services to the clients of Wood’s Homes. You will represent Wood’s Homes and ECMHS to community professionals, the public, and individuals and families. This is an in-person volunteer opportunity. 

Time Commitment: Minimum of one shift per month.

 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Provide direct single-session treatment services to children, youth, and families in the form of family, couple, and individual intervention and therapy. 
  • Complete written and timely records of ongoing clinical work following case management and professional guidelines. 
  • Actively communicate with community resources regarding Wood’s Homes clientele and programs. 
  • Perform as a member of an interdisciplinary team and actively participate in the clinical team. 
  • Complete all required role-related and health and safety training. 
  • Report workplace hazards, unsafe or unhealthy conditions, or incidents (including near misses, injuries, or equipment damage) to the direct supervisor. 
  • Participate in ongoing professional development. 
  • Uphold the values of Wood’s Homes. 
  • Provide a clear Intervention Record Check (formerly known as Child Welfare Check) every 3 years 
  • Provide a clear Criminal Record Check (CPIC) with vulnerable sector check (volunteer letter will be provided) every 3 years.  

 
Health and Safety: 

  • All volunteer work performed for Wood’s Homes must meet the requirements identified in the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation, and Code and comply with the Wood’s Homes Occupational Health and Safety Management System. 
  • Know your rights as a volunteer. 
  • Communicate with staff at Wood’s Homes about any situations that occur during your volunteer shift.

Qualifications: 

  • Masters or Ph.D. Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Family Nursing, Art Therapy, or a related field. 
  • Currently registered by and/or seeking registration/certification in the appropriate professional association. 
  • Licensed in accordance with the Health Professions Act and provides services in accordance with professional standards, guidelines and ethics. 
  • Able to complete written documentation within established time frames. 
  • Must have own transportation. 
  • Cultural competency, proficiency in multiple languages, and/or being part of an equity-deserving group as valued assets  
  • Personal suitability.
