What is Pride?

What is Pride?

When we think of pride, we sometimes think of a pride of lions. Did you know what a pride of lions represents? A pride of lions is a symbol of a family structure. A good example of what a pride represents is seen when we look at the community that lions build in support of each other. That community is in pursuit of a common goal: The Pride! And it teaches us about balance and how all living things together represent balance in life.

The Calgary Pride Parade is also about living together: It means inclusion. It means safety, resilience, diversity, equality and adversity. It represents balance. Whether you are participating in the parade, an ally in the crowd cheering on, or a curious onlooker, this event is all about togetherness, unity and of course balance.

Being a part of the crowd or marching for a common goal builds a sense of community, and that’s something we can all work together to strengthen. The parade allows us to roar for the LGBTQ2S+ community.

This is Wood’s Homes’ fifth year participating in the parade and each year draws more and more interest across our agency. We are all proud to stand side by side in unity to celebrate the LGBTQ2S+ community.

Wood’s Homes provides services for many diverse populations – we work hard to create safe and welcoming spaces.

As one of our clients in our EXIT program says: “The fact that Wood's Homes is in this year’s pride parade again, is excellent. It shows more people that’s it’s an open space of acceptance for everyone and it makes all of us feel like we won’t be judged.”
