Clients respond: What are you thankful for?
October 06, 2017

Thanksgiving is a time when many of us reflect on what we’re most thankful for. At Wood’s Homes, the joy of working with children, youth and families, the support we receive from the community and the 100 year history we’ve shared in Calgary – an amazing city – tops our list.
In the spirit of the season, we decided to ask our clients what they are thankful for. Some of the answers we received were surprising, but always heartwarming.
“I am thankful for going home this weekend and being able to spend time with my little brother.”
“I’m thankful that my family brought me to somewhere that I could get help and that they are able to listen.”
“I am thankful for where my house is and my room, because when I wake up in the morning I get a beautiful view of the mountains and trees as soon as I open my eyes.”
“I never imagined I could have made it to where I am. And I’m eternally grateful for all the help that people have given me help along the way. They’re what made me want to be a better me. I just needed a little hand up. Thank you to all of those who got me here.”
“I am thankful for my family, who is always supportive of me in everything I do no matter what.”
“I am thankful for the opportunity to play organized sports like basketball and football.”
“I’m thankful my mom lets me play video games and that my sisters leave me alone when I’m playing.”
“I am thankful I have friends who like to play.”
“I am thankful for clothes to keep me warm when it’s cold outside.”
“Three years ago, I had no clue that I would be where I am now. I couldn’t be more grateful for all of the opportunities Wood’s Homes has provided me – from culinary skills training, to employment training, to living in a low-cost rental apartment to being approved for the educational bursary. Thank you.”
“I’m thankful for my favourite teddy bear.”
“I am thankful for being able to see my family more often.”
“I am thankful that I have some dogs, and for my food and great family.”
“I’m thankful for my Oma. She’s an artist and shows me how to make art.”
“I’m thankful my Dad is coming to Calgary.”
“I am thankful for having a good relationship with my Mom.”
“I am thankful for having a Mom.”
“I am thankful to be able to let some of my stress and concerns be voiced, and actually listened to.”
From all of us here at Wood’s Homes, Happy Thanksgiving!
