Fostering community at Wood's Homes

On any given day, Wood’s Homes works with 45 foster families, each supported through our network that many describe as “one big family.”

Each of these families come to us from various backgrounds with different perspectives and strengths. However, despite these differences, they all share one thing in common – they’ve chosen to foster through Wood’s Homes and for that, we are grateful.

Although all cases are unique in nature, foster parents can rely on the experiences of each other, in conjunction with our foster care support workers, for support and advice. Our monthly ‘large group’ meetings are a perfect example of this. It is here that they have opportunity to share a meal, undergo training and share their respective worlds.

We also make sure to get together several times throughout the year to celebrate occasions such as Christmas and Easter by doing crafts, playing games and visiting with special guests, such as Santa or the Easter Bunny! This past summer, several families from our network packed up their children, dogs and sleeping bags, and went for a weekend-long camping trip south of Calgary. It was an absolute blast, and provided children living in care the opportunity to connect with others and gain new, exciting experiences.

Together, we have cultivated a network of community and families at Wood’s Homes.

To our foster parents: Thank you for connecting with us. It’s our pleasure to grow with you!

Happy Foster Parent Appreciation Week!
