Youth and Family Counsellor I or II - 1 to 1 Supports Services (3 Positions)

Wood's Homes is a non-profit, nationally accredited children’s mental health treatment centre, based in Calgary. Our regional programs are located in Canmore, Strathmore, Lethbridge, Fort McMurray and Fort Smith, NWT. We have more than 350 dedicated employees.

Commitment to high-risk adolescents, challenged with some very tough issues, is not easy. These are the times when our frontline workers spring into action. The type of work we do requires quick thinking, confidence, forgiveness and persistence.

We are currently seeking 3 Youth & Family Counsellors I or II for our 1:1 Supports for Residential and Group Care Services Program.  This program provides 1:1 active supervision for high risk clients.

The Youth & Family Counsellor acts as a coordinator in the planning and delivery of therapeutic activities for high risk youth.  The Youth and Family Counsellor is the primary worker with young people, normally on rotating shifts that provide coverage twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week.

This position reports to the Supervisor of the 1:1 Supports for Residential and Group Care Services Program.

RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:

  • Must be an effective, mature and appropriate role model for each client.
  • Participating in supervisory and team meetings, planning sessions, and in-service training.
  • Active Supervision to decrease risk, and increase safety of the client receiving the support service
  • Clear and specific reporting on goals of the Support Service provided
  • Attend case conferences, consultations, appointments and client related meetings


  • Diploma or Undergraduate Degree in the Social Sciences, Child and Youth Care,  Nursing
  • Minimum two (2) years of related experience in working with young people in a residential setting.
  • Experience in effective crisis management, high risk situations, and safety interventions
  • Valid driver’s license and own vehicle.
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Personal suitability is an important consideration.
