We are extremely proud of this department. The research it carries out helps us to monitor our outcomes of success and to always be aware of the importance of flexibility, innovativeness and quality when it comes to serving the troubled young people and their families who walk through our doors.
The Research Department monitors quality, investigates promising practices and reports on program outcomes. This work is supported and monitored by the Board's Quality Improvement Committee.
Wood's Homes is in its sixth year of using the internationally recognized Child and Adolescent Family Assessment Scale (CAFAS) to measure the progress of youth in our care. It compares intake scores with discharge scores.
Wood's Homes strives towards comprehensive treatment excellence. To achieve this, the Research Department assists the agency's programs and services by:
Keeping track of the work the various programs are engaged in;
Determining what treatment interventions with youth, families and communities are having some success;
Collecting and analysing feedback from customers and stakeholders;
Discovering promising practices being developed by other youth-oriented services in Canada and around the world;
Communicating successes by helping with presentations and with the preparation of articles for publication;
Tracking agency-wide issues of concern that may arise, such as critical incidents, staff turnover, and program peer ratings.
This department is focused on 3 vital goals:
Accuracy of data and analysis using software packages designed for quantitative and qualitative data analysis,
Expansion of research initiatives that will include the University of Calgary faculty and students, and
Improvement and updating of existing surveys and outcome measures.
