One of the key values of Wood's Homes is that of partnership - establishing a connection with others in order to provide better, more accessible and more immediate service to children, families and communities.
Philosophy . . .
Wood's Homes enters into partnerships with other human service organizations in order to better serve the needs of troubled children, youth and their families. These partnerships are incorporated into the program areas of Wood's Homes and are considered to be a Wood's Homes responsibility.
Definition . . .
Wood's Homes defines partnership as 'a group of participants in a process of providing service who fully understand and accept their specific roles and responsibilities.'
Background . . .
Partnership is a value that is held in high regard by funders, legislators and other service providers and seekers.
In some cases, a partnership may be made with a family or other likely group that interacts directly with a young person. A partnership could also mean a relationship involving the broad systems, in which a young person lives, works, goes to school or otherwise operates. In other cases, a partnership may be a group of organizations or community associations that come together to operate a service that is the product of all of their input. These latter partnerships may, on occasion, be called alliances, associations, coalitions, connections, advisory committees, affiliations, memberships, etc.
It is expected that all organizational partnerships that Wood's Homes enters into, will be with like-minded agencies with regard to legal, financial and ethical responsibilities and philosophical direction.
RADAR is a partnership of organizations that provides alternative school and recreation programs for young people (12-15) who have been kicked out school, or who have not attended for some time for various reasons.
The Burns Memorial Fund is the fiscal platform – Burns receives the funding from SCIF (Safe Communities Innovation Fund) and distributes to the following partners:
Wood’s Homes
The Boys and Girls Club
Calgary Board of Education
Calgary Separate School District
Alberta Mental Health (now part of Alberta Health Services)
City of Calgary
Alberta Children’s Services
Young people in the RADAR Partnership program are provided educational and recreational instruction at the Boys and Girls Club Hangar, where a Wood’s Homes transition worker and a CSSD teacher work with them in a dedicated classroom.
RADAR is not intended to be a substitute for regular school programs but merely a temporary program that helps these young people get them back on track and in school. The children come to RADAR, upon referral from frontline workers in these various agencies.
