Walk-in Single Session Therapy
An hour-long session that a client can access immediately by walking in.
Presuppositions:
• Clients are the best judge of what they need and when they need it.
• A therapist is a consultant who works with the client to address the need.
• The resources and competencies of the client can be mobilized to move the client toward problem solution.
Focused Counselling
An on-site brief therapy service where clients meet with the same therapist for up to five sessions on an appointment basis. Identification, assessment and treatment are provided for families with children and youth with mental health concerns.
This service is also provided to high-needs elementary schools and on an outreach basis to high needs communities.
The model of practice is based on psychotherapy outcome research with particular attention to research concerning common factors (Hubble, Duncan & Miller, 1999), brief therapy (Bloom, 2001) and single session therapy (Talmon, 1990).
The Community Resource Team provides a telephone service for crisis counselling, information, and referrals. CRT provides mobile crisis response services (home visits) that offer timely visits to a family’s home or neighborhood setting.
Crisis support can include information about resources in the community, connecting people with local services, problem solving, or providing empathic, nonjudgmental one- on-one support for persons in crisis. CRT also provides community education about mental health services and Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM). It also offers a point of entry for information and referrals to Wood’s Homes services.
The Community Resource Team supports community self-sufficiency, family-enhancement and a least-intrusive intervention approach through a coordinated multi-disciplinary delivery of treatment.
