Wood's Homes Governance
No traditional or clearly delineated model of Board governance is at work here.
The Board believes, trusts and acknowledges that the agency staff know what they are doing in the areas of psycho-therapeutic interventions, crisis response, group work, family therapy and the like, and safeguards are in place to assist them do this work with excellence.
In turn, the agency's management looks to the Board for guidance, counsel and direction in the areas of business management, finance, funds development, policy creation and legal guidance and community profile. The result is that each part of this equation is both interested and committed to the growth and success of the agency as a human service organization. And each knows that the information the other party has will only add to this collective success.
Board Background
The bylaws of Wood's Homes allow for a maximum of 15 Board members. The Board operates with a strong committee structure that has been in place for approximately 10 years. People who are interested in joining the Wood's Homes Board may join a committee to see if the philosophy and structure of Wood's Homes suits their interests. Most of the time, members of committees move from committee work to Board work based upon mutual interest and commitment. Committees are reviewed every year by both senior management and the Board.
