These photos above are just a small part of our treasured archives. They are pictures of children in our care in the late '50s at the original orphanage in Innisfail, AB.

Douglas Fir Historical Site  - on our Bowness campus:

The photo below depicts a portion of the unique forest of Douglas Fir trees, on the western end of our Bowness campus - 9404 48 Ave. N.W.

These giant treasures, several of which are more than 400 years old, germinated in the late 1500s! This is one of the three Douglas Fir stands in Calgary, and is the eastern extreme of their habitat.

The Board of Directors of Wood's Homes asked the Province of Alberta to designate this portion of their land as an historic site. The Province granted the designation of Provincial Historic Resource on November 30, 1990.

You are welcome to stroll among these magnificent trees but please note that the renewal process is under way with many young Douglas Fir in this area. Please help us protect and preserve this site by staying on existing trails and leaving vegetation undisturbed by your passing. Enjoy the walk!
