Being a Wood's Homes resident wasn't what you would have chosen . . . but we have heard from many of you who have expressed appreciation that our staff and teachers were there when you needed them the most.
This section of our website is devoted to the Alumni of Wood's Homes, and there are thousands of them, including former staff, who have lived and worked here over the years.
We are hoping to hear from as many of you as possible: Tell us where you are, any anecdotes or stories you may remember from your time at Wood's Homes.
You can email askus@woodshomes.ca to provide information which will be kept entirely confidential unless you specify otherwise. Our hope is, however, to eventually provide a listing which you can use to correspond with others who may have shared the same time period, and therefore the same experiences.
'Passing Innocence' - a fictionalized book about Wood's Homes
Francis (Franky) Dwyer, a Wood's Homes resident from 1946 to 1957, published a novel based on his experiences here. Passing Innocence is a fictionalized compilation gleaned from dozens of interviews and his research.
The book is a fascinating read for any who have passed through the doors of Wood's Homes and can be obtained by contacting Dwyer in Kamloops, B.C. at fjdwyer@mail.ocis.net
Passing Innocence is $25, which includes mailing charges.
Dwyer also hopes to see a pictorial history of Wood's Homes ready for the 100th year Anniversary in 2014. Toward that end, he has collected and restored more than 200 photos covering the time from the 1920s to the 1950s.
If anyone has photos from their time at Wood's Homes,
please contact us at askus@woodshomes.ca.
We would love to include your stories in this memorable album of 100 years.
