Welcome to Wood's Homes . . .

Thank you for visiting us here.

Wood’s Homes (Wood’s Christian Homes until 2007) began as an orphanage in 1914. A soldier, about to head overseas, stopped George Wood, a Presbyterian minister, on a street in Innisfail, Alberta, to ask if he would consider caring for his two motherless children. George Wood agreed.

Sadly, the soldier did not return but that pivotal moment became the foundation for what today has become a social service agency that serves 20,000 vulnerable children and their families every year.

Wood’s Homes is a community owned and operated children’s mental health centre based in Calgary. With a staff complement of 350 we provide 34 programs and services for at-risk children, youth and their families. These programs are located in Calgary, Canmore, Lethbridge, Strathmore (Wheatland County); Canmore (Bow Valley); Lethbridge, Fort McMurray and Fort Smith, N.W.T. We remain one of the oldest, still-operating charities in Alberta.

Wood’s Homes is recognized in the community and across Canada, for its innovative services. We are a place of trust, where all young people and their families (regardless of the difficulty) can turn to for help. We strongly believe that families are the backbone of a community. When families are in trouble, children suffer. Helping young people reach adulthood, achieve their potential and become productive members of the community must be one of society’s top priorities.
